From Chris Deacon
Lately I've been thinking about a man I encountered during my chaplaincy this past summer.
I don't remember his name or even why he was in the hospital. He was on one of my floors
and I just walked into his room and introduced myself. We talked for about half an hour.
During our talk, it came out that he had been trying to get the phone number for unemployment
to tell them where to send his check. It was a special phone number and he couldn't locate
it. After our conversation, I went to the chaplain's office, got on the internet, and
located the number for him. I visited a few other patients and before I left, I went back
to see him. When I walked in, he was asleep, but then he woke up. I gave him the phone
number and then left because it was obvious he wasn't fully awake.
The next day, I stopped to check on him. He asked if I had brought him the number. He then
told me that he thought it was an angel that had brought it to him while he slept. He had
been trying for some time to get the number and had been praying that he could somehow get
it when I came in the previous morning. He figured it was just God answering his prayer.
It was nothing for me to go and get that number for him. It took less than five minutes
out of my day, but it meant the world to him. Sometimes the tiniest action, the smallest
kindness can mean the world to someone and even answer their prayers!
Faithfully,
Chris
